Caught myself in a goof mining

Almost funny that I planned to spend weekend studying everything to be found about mining here because it's a bit like mining itself, with lil bits 'n pieces on various threads and youtube videos.

I've done a bit of mining in real-world, it's exciting and relaxing with the occasional rush of a good find. There's a crystal mine I go to in Mt Ida, AR now and then. Pay $20 per day and keep all you find. It's the fun of the hunt being paid for.

As for the goof? I was wasting probes by dropping too close together. The info tab mentions 21 m radius but that is hard to judge in game. I learned this by looking at how far away my first strike was today. Judging by eye, if on a run dropping probes, there would have been 2 wasted in that space.

My temporary response, until learning more, is to count out 15 seconds of running between drops.

Also, my first days at it, if a Shog got close, I stopped mining and shot it. Now I notice that they often hang back and let me run by or watch me work the extractor without attacking. No point wasting ammo on them if they aren't going to attack. That being said, a lvl 16 Yog jumped out of nowhere the other day and ate me with one bite. Barely caught glimpse but swear the sound effect was, "Chomp!" :)

try and use LBML little program that assist you on mining in EU. most of miners like myself, I dont do mining if my LBML is not open :) here is official web site and also u have youtube video how to set it up, they change a little but you will figure it out I am sure :)
and best and GL on mining

Simple, yet Significant
^^ Good advice there re. LBML...not that I use it (More of a Hunter)

What I do when mining is drop a Waypoint when I drop my first probe (hit "P" then add to Map).
Then as you walk occasionally look behind you (or flip camera around so your running out of screen).
Waypoint shows distance from that drop. Basically just drop at 42, 84, 126 etc.

Good Luck out there :D

Double dropping on a dead first hit is not advisable, yes you 'can' find something on the second drop but Id not bet the ranch on that theory.

For best results, look at your finder's info, it will tell you the radius the thing works at, lets assume yours says it's good for 30 meters. Now, drop a probe and look at your radar, from there go one of the cardinal directions, ie N,S,E,W until the number in the radar goes either up or down 30, that is the radius of your finder. You want to go that same direction, that distance once again, then the outer edge of your next drop should ideally touch but not overlap the first drop. As mentioned, you can set a marker in your map then travel 60M away from it and then look at the map to rough gauge the distance, or if you are at a landmark, get an idea how to eyeball it. The most accurate way tho is to use the LBML program, that way no matter what direction you go, you have it nailed down to a gnats ass, it draws circles for you, shows you what you got, all kinds of neat stuff to help you from wasting probes.

The walking and counting to 15 works ok on even terrain but climbing slows you a bit as other things can so it's not entirely accurate.

OH and also, do NOT EVER.... assume that mining finds in game will mimic real life, you will lose your ass trying that logic.

I've been wondering what kind of logic or programming is used to determine size of finds?

Is there a fixed amount that can be eventually mined out?
Your comment would imply no.

Is there a set percentage of income dedicated to big prizes?
If this is the case, then things will get better in time.

Thanks for the tip but this old computer won't handle it. Can't get the NET install to hold.
More reason to get a new one.
All your comments combined on this thread are already saving me PED TYVM

Good advice guys :) I think I'll go do some mining today and see what happens :)

@Amandil you're on the way to being a mining uuber :)

I could tell you that yes, pools are made, the mining counts down, some is saved for big pots etc etc, but then Id be just like everyone else who has a theory or claims to 'know' how it works.

Only MA knows that stuff and even then, sometimes I think even they are a bit clueless when I seen some of the stuff they did in the past :D

Some stuff, like oil and lyst is pretty limitless, but other stuff, the rare stuff has a cap on it, it appears they only let so much in game. If someone hoards, the amount found goes way down.

Although I can not verify it, I have seen plenty of times in the past, right before a big event, loots turn to shit, then gee guess what, poof presto, an ATH happens in the event. I would strongly suggest that they do save up for loot pay outs, any casino gets the money FIRST, then pays out. How they split it up I don't know, and no the chaikin oscillator theory don't work well on the loot.

How big can you get. I hear it's 10,000 X the bet.. loosely. so lets say you were crafting an item t hat cost 1 ped in material to make, theoretically the biggest loot you could win off that item is 10 000 ped. Many believe this but then you got the ATH on mining that was what? 200k ped and found on a rookie finder? So much for that theory, and no I don't think it was an 'accident' either because MA has been very fast to un F34k a 343up they have done that helped YOU win money in the past and take the money right back. As a general rule though, the more you bet, the more you stand to win BUT... there ARE different loot pools.

Your 'muiltiplier' lets call it is based on many things, some we know, many we don't. Lets say you were mining with a regular finder and found a 20 ped find. That does not mean that if you were to instead, drop a Lv 13 Amped drop there instead of the normal one you would have found 20K ped. It doesn't work that way, otherwise everyone would run out with rookie finders, find the vein then drop atomic bombs :D

Eco plays into it as well I have seen. Let's take hunting as an example. You can get a very 'eco' gun and hunt and do ok, find this and that. Then switch to a gun that is not so eco, or maybe you are not fully trained in and all of the sudden you are finding stuff you never have on the other gun. I have tested this on Cyrene back when it was alive and spent literally hundreds of hours swunting, months and months, killing thousands of panelions and from my personal observations, believe this 'theory' holds some merit. Different weapons can drop different loots. You can be Borg like eco or you can say, ehh, it's not super efficient but damn this gun is fun. It seems that MA rewards ped inefficiency.

Right now my theory is that MA hates me because I have given away too many of their secrets because out of the thousands and thousands of ped I have put in since the beginning of the year, I really haven't got crap to show for it really. So my next theory states that it's all waiting for YOU to find, so have at it :D
