26-inch thick armor from Japanese Yamato class battleship pierced by a US Navy 16-inch gun. The armor is on display at the US Navy Museum.
I just thought this was interesting and cool

When you're shooting at a battleship, it HAS to be "some gun" -- or you get your ass kicked. :D

With Memorial Day coming up..I was watching the "Hunt for Red October" and seen this picture,I thought to myself.."That had to have been a massive gun to travel through water and yet still do that."

Author Tom Clancy was a brilliant writer. It's unfortunate that he died on Oct 1st, 2013.

The Iowa-class battleships really were amazing...those 16in guns fired a shell that weighed like 2200 pounds (about the same weight as a small car) and had a range of 25miles or so. I read somewhere once that when USS Missouri fired a broadside (all 9 main guns at once), it would move the 45,000ton ship 12 feet in the other direction. /boggle.

Oh, and The Pelican Brief and The Client were written by John Grisham I think...

Wow, moving 45,000 tons 12 feet is insane! Nice info Hovno :)

Ah yeah, your right John Grisham it was

    Oh I love that picture.
I think as my grandfather and uncle were in the Navy..I remember their stories and just think how loud it must have been when those would shoot.

Must get around to watching it, don't seem to watch movies at all recently with this game. Somebody loaned me Wolf of Wall St because I wanted to see it, had to eventually give it back because I had it three weeks, I still haven't seen it lol.

Was in the Navy, stationed at NavSta Long Beach, right next to the New Jersey's pier, when I was in. They Fired off a single one of those guns once, for memorial day one year... OMG...
My entire ship rattled with the sound concussion, and we were nearly a mile away.
